Health Update

Today I was talking to a friend on the phone when I realized I have not updated on Elem's health status in forever! I guess I got so sick of blogging about the same ole thing-Elem has diarrhea blah blah blah, that I just quit talking about it. Over the course of the last 2 months we have really not done much to address that issue. And amazingly enough, it has turned out marvelously! Elem has still not been drinking any form of actual milk-no whole milk, soy milk, nothin. But he does eat dairy products, like mac n cheese, shredded cheese, and so on. Other than that we have just tried not to feed him anything too greasy, and just stuck to the food items he enjoys eating-and it appears that his little intestine has worked itself out! We have no idea how or why, but with a lot of prayer, and just positive thinking, he really hasnt had any diarrhea over the last month-or 2. It is really weird to look back and see that his little tummy was sick for about 6 months, and then all of the sudden totally cured. I wont ask questions or pass along any doubts in sustaining this healthy tummy, but just be thankful for it, and pray that it stays this way. So thank you to everyone for your prayers, kind words, suggestions, support, everything. They have meant more to us than you could ever know. Throughout the whole time, we felt almost overwhelmed with questions and now although they have not been answered he seems to be cured, and we will leave it at that. Healthy and happy 19 month old boy.

In other health related news-of all things Elem Zane got a double ear infection about a month ago. He has never had any problems with his ears, and we were shocked that he started getting sick. He has only had one, maybe 2 ear infections ever in his life, and those were last winter, when it was really cold. I like to think that the breastfeeding has given him a little jump start on the immune system in his life, and until now, and except for the tummy issues, he has been a super healthy boy. We went to the doc, had the ears checked out, and of course they were both infected. Elem went through 1 cycle of Amoxicilan, and we headed back because I felt like he was still sick. And of course, still double ear infection, and the doc said it almost seemed to have gotten worse in both ears, So Elem went through a full cycle of Ceflacor, or something along those lines :). But once again, I could tell he was still sick and his ears were still bothering him.So we headed back, and the doc let us know that he had some strange kind of bacterial infection in his ears and they were still really bad infected in both ears. So we ended up giving his antibiotic shots for 3 days. He had to go last week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to get 2 shots in each thigh each day. It was sooo pitiful and just plain mean. I couldnt stand it that I had to hold his hands while they were stabbing him in the legs, knowing that it might not even work. But we headed back on Monday to get him checked out again, because I wanted to make sure it was all gone. And the doc said he was clear and healthy as could be! Wahoo! Good bye ear infections.

And there you have it-the Elem Zane health update as of today. he is currently snot free, ear ache free, diarrhea free, and full of silliness. So good to see him finally feeling good again, we all know it sucks to have a runny nose, matted eyes, and 2 ears aching. For now, all three of us are healthy and we hope to stay that way throughout the winter.
